Told by an Idiot appoints new Executive Director

Told by an Idiot, the innovative theatre company celebrated for creating ambitious and risk-taking work, has announced the appointment of Jennifer Holton as its new Executive Director and Co-CEO. Holton will work alongside Artistic Director Paul Hunter in jointly leading the company.

Holton initially joined the company as an Assistant Producer in 2015. Over the years, she has been instrumental in the company’s success, working with a wide range of national and international partners and her “brilliant” colleagues to develop groundbreaking projects that push boundaries both on and off the stage.

“As I step into the role of Executive Director of Told by an Idiot, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to continue my journey with this extraordinary company,” said Holton. “To be entrusted with working alongside Paul to guide Told by an Idiot’s future as Executive Director and co-CEO is an absolute privilege. I’m dedicated to realising Paul’s vision for the company through a sustainable business plan, championing innovation and accessibility, and ensuring the boundless creativity of Told by an Idiot reaches the widest possible audience.”

A “delighted” Artistic Director Paul Hunter said, “Jen has worked for the company for over 8 years and her passion, insight and ambition has been at the heart of the company’s success over the past decade. Her understanding of the company’s ethos, her rigour and genuine commitment to access and collaboration made her an outstanding candidate. I very much look forward to creating the unexpected with her on the next stage of the Idiot journey.”

The appointment was praised by Sophie Scott CBE, Chair of Told by an Idiot’s Board: “Jen has extensive experience in theatre making, community work and digital and has worked with TBAI as Producer and most recently as the interim Executive Director. Told by an Idiot has just turned 30 and Jen has the vision, creativity, leadership and confidence to be a central part of the company’s exciting future.”
