Operations and Finance Manager
Salary: £35,000 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Location: Beehive Mill, Manchester, with some flexible home working by agreement
Help shape the future of an award-winning arts charity
Our Operations and Finance Manager is moving on to lead a charity as their CEO, which he has worked with for several years. We are really sorry to see him go, but proud to have contributed to his development and see him take this next step.
His move creates an opportunity for someone new to join PORe at an exciting stage in our development. With established systems to build on and a new five-year business plan to deliver, you will have room to bring ambition, new ideas and perspectives as well as develop your experience and make a valued contribution to our future.
About you
You will be the person colleagues turn to for support and direction when something needs sorting. You can get into the detail, make decisions, take ownership and follow them through. You also know that supporting people is as important as keeping the accounts and plans on track.
We are looking for someone who enjoys this challenge and mix of responsibilities and wants to invest their experience within an organisation with a clear social purpose.
You may have developed your skills in a charity, arts, community organisation, social enterprise or another setting. Your current job title matters less than who you are, what you bring, along with your experience of managing operations, finances and people, and the judgement and care you embody.
You will be approachable, considerate, resourceful and comfortable taking responsibility. You will listen to colleagues, ask questions and know when to seek advice.
You do not need an arts background or personal experience of addiction and recovery, but you will need to be inspired by our work, be open to the potential and have the practical skills to make it happen.
About PORe
Portraits of Recovery is a contemporary visual arts charity rooted in lived experience of substance use and recovery. We work with artists, communities and cultural institutions to create ambitious art that challenges stigma and changes how recovery is understood.
Our work advances Recoverism: a social and cultural movement that recognises people in recovery as artists, cultural contributors and agents of change.
Through exhibitions, commissions and public programmes, we create opportunities for people to shape how their experiences are represented and contribute to cultural life.
Our award-winning artistic programme includes the acclaimed 12-month-long Recoverist Curators exhibition at the Whitworth and nominations at the Manchester Culture Awards in both 2025 and 2026 and Museum Changes Lives Award 2026.
The role
Working closely with our Founding Director and CEO, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of PORe. You will support our small team, manage finances and resources, and help turn agreed plans into practical, achievable work.
The role combines hands-on financial management, including budgets, cash flow, financial records and reporting, with people management, governance support and oversight of our organisational commitments.
You will work with external accountants, bookkeepers, payroll providers and specialist advisers where needed, all alongside the diverse and creative artists who also make PORe.
You will also help implement our commissioned digital marketing and audience development strategy and support the practical arrangements behind our developing partnerships and artistic programme.
There are established systems to build on and room to improve how we do things. We need someone who can work through a problem, follow things through and keep sight of the wider priorities.
What you will get in return
- Salary of £35,000 per annum, with direct access to the CEO and trustees.
- Permanent, 35-hour-per-week role, 28 days’ annual leave and agreed flexible home working.
- Real influence over how a small, ambitious arts charity works and develops.
- Be part of a close, collaborative team, with freedom to improve systems and shape organisational growth.
- Have the opportunity to utilise and develop your experience while supporting ambitious contemporary art programmes that challenge stigma.
- Visible impact whilst working with nationally recognised artistic programmes.
Application deadline: Friday 20 November 2026 at 12 noon.
